Artist: ZHANG JIA YAN
Zhang was born in 1968 in Jia Yu county, Hubei province. He attended formal art lessons in 1987 while he was in middle school. In 1989, Zhang was admitted by Hubei Art Institute and specialized in wall painting.
Graduated in 1993, Zhang took up a teaching post at the Art and Design Course of Wuhan (Second) Light Industry Vocational School. Between 2003 and 2013, he devoted more time in Hubei Art Institute as a research student and also teaching at universities. Zhang has a strong interest in philosophy, history, archeology, sociology and geography.
Zhang’s art skill is broad in a way he is a painter, a sculptor, a poet and specialized in, basically, all kinds of art, traditional or contemporary. He loves pottery, wood engraving and masters innovative technique with rare metal in sculpture. Zhang is very sensitive of what is happening in the rest of the world. People always say that Zhang’s paintings and works of art resemble the drumming action of Chinese opera – in silence.
