Artist: YA CHEN
Ya was born in Hong Kong in the 70s, at a time, the place was still a British colony. Like most of the people in Hong Kong, Ya is able to see the best of both worlds – where 'east meets west'.
After graduated from art school, Ya travelled extensively in the mainland and developed deep interest in photography, painting and writing. Once, Ya said, "I love painting and taking photos as same as I love writing stories about things I have seen. This is three-spirit in one, which makes life worth living to me."
The vast north-west territory in China has a special meaning to Ya. After his many trips there, Ya has his own interpretation of the place and the people in the north-west, which haunted him to go back again and again, but not settling down.
These days, Ya spends most of his time painting and writing in the mainland while his country house in Tung Chung, on Hong Kong’s Lantau Island, has become his last retreat.
